Kent College Canterbury
Kent College is a day and boarding school with a 140 year history. It is a forward-looking school, which describes itself as having an innovative approach to education. Part of the Methodist Independent Schools group, Kent College is deeply rooted in the Methodist tradition that welcomes all pupils of every faith and none. ‘Do all the good you can’ is a guiding principle, and one that allows pupils to develop into confident young adults, aware of their responsibilities and their place in the world.
The school’s vision for education is focused upon the needs of each individual, developing inquiring and knowledgeable people who understand how to lead happy and fulfilling lives, with the skills to play active roles in an inclusive and sustainable future.
While it is a non-selective school, students consistently achieve excellent academic results at GCSE, A Level, and in the International Baccalaureate. A wide range of additional support is available for pupils including English language teaching in the International Study Centre, and a specialist Learning Support Centre. The Independent Schools Inspectorate judged the school to be ‘excellent’ in every aspect in the most recent inspection – the highest grade possible.
Sport, Music and Drama all play a major role in school life and offer opportunities for everyone, from beginners to elite level performers. There is a wide-ranging variety of activities and clubs, as well as the opportunity to work on the School Farm. All of these co-curricular activities feed into the much wider theme that informs everything the school does: that young people who feel good about themselves do well, whatever their chosen path may be.
