In the midst of the current situation in which we find ourselves, with the cancellation of this summer's GCSE and A Level examinations, City of London Freemen's School has launched its own bridging courses to assist their students who are transitioning between GCSE, A Levels and University. These are remote six-week courses that aim to ease the gap between studies and allow students to prepare for their future education.
CoL Freemen's School found that, within the first 24 hours of launching these courses, 108 of their A Level students had already enrolled and 113 out of 115 year 13 students had enrolled onto the pre-university courses, which span to 195 options. The courses are also available to external students who will be joining the Freemen's sixth form in September.
The school has been praised by parents', who discussed that these courses transform 'this time of challenge into one of great academic opportunity for most of the pupils, not to mention the positive psychological impact of having them 'future focussed' again.'
The courses for pre-university include Preparation for your course programmes, delivered by academic departments, as well as external webinars from Universities themselves.
The headmaster, Mr Roland Martin, explains the development process for these courses: “We are very excited about making the most of this period of time for our External Examination candidates. Rather than focussing on the disappointment of being unable to sit the exams for which they have worked so desperately hard, our students will now be able to benefit from looking ahead to, and preparing for their ongoing studies. These courses, coupled with ongoing pastoral support will undoubtedly provide Freemen’s students with the best possible preparation for their future education.” - Mr Roland Martin, Headmaster, City of London Freemen’s School.
